The Inward Gaze
I believe people are born with different lessons in life to learn, different struggles to overcome, different themes that play through their life. One of the major themes of my life has steadfastly been Identity. I have always been someone who changes my hair color, changes what I wear, changes groups of friends. Always exploring and playing with my own identity. Ever since I have held a camera I have been turning it towards myself, as if to understand myself from the outside-in. These images span my first self-portraits to my current work. It is important to note the majority of the time I am both photographer and subject, which presents its own logistically challenges but also allows for the truth of “me” to be captured.
